An exam table or examination table is used to assist patients in medical examinations. Doctors in UK surgeries, hospitals and clinics use an adjusting mechanism during these exams to position and manipulate the table so that patients can support them, allow for closer examination of certain areas or all of their bodies, and to safely move the patient around the table.
Rolls of paper are often used to protect exam tables. The paper is typically discarded after each patient uses it.
Since the 1970s examination tables have been equipped with electric motors. These motors are installed underneath the tabletop. The power cables typically detach to reduce tripping hazards. A reversible electric motor allows the table to move forward and backwards more easily.
